Het woord “Fatum” komt oorspronkelijk uit het Latijn en betekent “lot” of “noodlot”. In het Nederlands wordt het woord “fatum” vooral gebruikt in een poëtische of literaire context om te verwijzen naar een onontkoombare lotsbestemming of een onvermijdelijke gebeurtenis die de loop der dingen bepaalt.

Wat is FATUM?
FĀTUM is een tweefasenroutine voor twee toeschouwers.
Stel je voor dat je enkele Fortune Cards laat zien die uit een waarzeggersmachine komen. Elke toeschouwer scheurt een label af van het hoofd of de staart van de strook (vrije keuze) en leest het lot dat op de achterkant geschreven staat.
Nu is het tijd om hun autosuggestie te testen: zullen ze beïnvloed worden door de woorden van de waarzegger? Om dit te testen, zul je een antiek kaartspel gebruiken: er zitten alleen zon- en maankaarten in.
Snijd ongeveer de helft van het deck en plaats de ene helft met de voorkant naar beneden en de andere met de voorkant naar boven: elke toeschouwer zal 7 kaarten van de voorkant nemen, van de achterkant, of van beide. (weer vrije keuze)
Nu tellen ze het aantal zon- en maankaarten dat ze hebben verzameld en ze hebben allebei verschillende aantallen zon- en maankaarten verzameld, maar… het aantal zon- en maankaarten dat ze hebben meegenomen, zal overeenkomen met het aantal zon- en maankaarten dat is afgebeeld op de voorkant van elk label dat ze aan het begin hebben gekozen!
In het tweede deel worden alle kaarten door de toeschouwers geschud en vervolgens aan jou teruggegeven. Je waaiert de kaarten uit met de voorkant naar beneden en haalt enkele kaarten eruit, met de voorkant naar beneden, en vraagt de toeschouwers te raden of het een zon- of maankaart is.
Je plaatst elke kaart volgens de gok van de toeschouwer. Na een paar kaarten draai je de kaarten om en laat je zien dat… alle zon- en maankaarten precies waren gescheiden door het instinct van de toeschouwers!
